From the what a world we live in department:
POST FALLS, Idaho - A woman has been accused of filing a fake rape report so her airman boyfriend could get emergency leave to return to the United States from Korea so they could be married.
Rita Endreson, 26, filed the report on May 13, describing her alleged assailant in detail, and then contacted the Red Cross, asking that Jason Bisaro, 24, of Spokane, Wash., be returned from Korea. She identified herself as Bisaro's wife because the special Red Cross program to get service men home in emergencies is only for relatives.
Detectives investigating the rape report quickly found inconsistencies in the woman's story, and when they tried to clear them up, Endreson refused to cooperate, Lt. Greg McLean said.
"Once we learned she contacted the Red Cross, we could see a motive," McLean said.
When confronted, he said she confessed the report was false and was ticketed for the misdemeanor.
Bisaro made it to Seattle before her story fell apart. He was initially picked up by Air Force authorities there and released. He managed to elude their surveillance so he could still meet up with Enderson, and the two married in Coeur d'Alene on May 17.
Bisaro, who has since been returned to Korea, was being questioned by Air Force investigators about showing his commander what appears to be a bogus picture of a beaten Endreson. McLean said Endreson had no bruises when she was questioned after reporting the rape.
"These two used lies to abuse the system," McLean said. "The disheartening thing is that this could take away from a person serving in the military overseas who really has a crisis in the family."
The Post Falls officials also want restitution for the more than 100 hours spent by detectives on the fake rape claim. A department spokeswoman said a specific value for that time was not available on Thursday.
